Harford County Public Schools was approved for the maximum number of the inclement weather waivers – five – from the Maryland State Department of Education, Superintendent Barbara Canavan said.
With the approval of the waivers, the official last day of school for teachers and students in kindergarten to 11th grade will be on June 12, a day earlier than originally scheduled, Canavan said during a school board meeting Monday night.
Canavan said school will end on June 10 for pre-K students.
The waiver approvals come after a rough winter with harsh weather causing multiple days of school closures, early dismissals and late arrivals, including a controversial early dismissal on Feb. 3, when classes were held for 2 1/2 hours, shy of the three hour state law minimum required to be considered a full-day of school.
